About Delphifan Forum - Read Everyone

Hello everyone,

I do not know how much more I will be able to hold the DelphiFan forum. So far, we have had paypal and with the help of your donations there was no problem with the forum. But lately donations have stopped. That's a bigger problem for me. So far, I have endured and paid for the forum and the safety of the forum from my pocket. We have attacks on the forum every day. Some of us do not like: D. And for the protection of the forum every month I have to pay security that is not so cheap. So far, I have managed to do somehow, but I do not have enough now without donations. I know that many people want to donate and help our forum, but most of you are using paypal. We have problems with paypal and we are currently receiving donations only through SKRILL and Bitcoin. I do not know how much more I can support, but if this continues, I will probably get my hands from the forum for 1-2 months. Maybe somebody gives a forum some new admin and maybe I close the forum forever. For some of you $ 5-10 a month is not much, but if we have 10-20 users who will help the forum would not have any problems. All the money that is collected from your donations to help the forum will be invested in the forum. If there is any money I will use this money to buy new components that I will send only to those who help the forum.

I hope that we will overcome this problem and that the forum will continue to be active. If no change occurs and you yourself will notice that the activity on the forum will stand at least as far as me.

I hope that at least you can help our forum in a way that for many years we have been online and together.

Delphi vs C #. Which one is the best?

Delphi was born in 1995 as an Object Pascal programming language. It was the first to be written as RAD environment (Rapid Application Development) its name alludes to the database (Oracle) that could be found in the temple of Delphi.

As for Delphi as programming language there was little evolution, while the C # that is now in its seventh version is constantly evolving, now with .NET Core 2.0 and Xamarin Forms C # comes as an option for all operating systems. We have until today companies using Delphi 7 and BDE, did not adhere to the few evolutions proposed by the languages ​​like Generics, anonymous methods and several other changes. I see the Delphi developer, stuck in the past and very scared of changes, and I see a huge world out there with multiple possibilities, not just even with C # so for me today C # is a better language, better prepared for what the to come, nothing prevents the jetty from changing this scenario, but from what it has seen, it makes no effort to do so.

Install Tokyo on Win 10 64bit on a VirtualBox.

Installed a fresh new Win 10 64bit on a VirtualBox.
Installed Delphi 10.2.
First run was OK after install and before reboot.

After reboot:
1) I confirm that SHFolder.dll is under "bin" directory of Delphi.
2) I confirm that Delphi 10.2 is not stated OK and asked for a license.
3) After I see Delphi is not started, I checked license directory and see no slip file in there.
3.1) I added an option in Windows Firewall for outgoing packets to block bds.exe
4) Later, I run KeyGen application. Clicked Generate and then Patch.
5) Tried to run Delphi 10.2 again and I see that it works ok.
6) Closed and re-run Delphi without a reboot and I confirm that Delphi runs ok.
7) Shutdown OS using Start-Shutdown.
8) Started again the Windows 10 under VirtualBox.
9) Checked that slip files and SHFolder.dll files are in place. Confirming that they are in place.
10) Run Delphi 10.2 and confirm that it runs OK.
11) Shutdown OS using Start-Reboot.
12) Checks that slip files and SHFolder.dll files are in place. Confirming that they are in place.
13) Run Delphi 10.2 and confirm that it runs OK.

Probably, my issue was because I didn't block bds.exe accessing internet in Windows Firewall for incoming/outgoing.

Traditionally the Upgrade version was our biggest seller! Why would they end that?However when I dug into the data over the last few years it became much less surprising. With our customer base now dominated by people on Update Subscription, the Upgrade versions are now a very low percentage of sales.Probably the most common question at this point is “Does this affect me?”If you’re on Update Subscription, then no, it doesn’t. You’re already getting all releases that come out during your subscription, and your renewal is not affected by this.If you’re not on Update Subscription, then yes, you could be affected:
  • If you’re on a recent version (XE7, XE8, 10 Seattle, 10.1 Berlin) you can still Upgrade but only until the end of March.
  • If you’re on an older version, then Embarcadero are running an Upgrade Amnesty until the end of March, meaning you can get onto Update Subscription at the Upgrade price, even if you’re currently on Delphi 1! (Don’t laugh, just within the last 2 weeks I’ve been talking to someone about helping to move their Delphi 1 code over to a mobile app and a REST server in the cloud. That’s a 23 year jump in one go!)
Some of you at this point might be saying “They run Amnesty several times per year. They’ll do it again in a few months”, and yes, they have run them fairly regularly over recent years. That’s a big part of the reason so many people are now on Update Subscription.However, if you think about it, after March this won’t be possible. The Amnesty is the ability to register an Upgrade version, even without a qualifying recent version registered on your account. Exciting RAD Studio Developments in 2018

 We have many exciting new features and product enhancements planned for Delphi, C++Builder and RAD Studio in 2018. In our You can't view the links! Click here to register, we covered many of the new plans and features planned for 2017 and 2018.  We are pleased to share details for Release 3 of 10.2 Tokyo (i.e. 10.2.3), targeted for the first quarter of 2018. For this release, we have three key themes. First, it provides enhancements for our core visual frameworks, including better HighDPI support for VCL and quality improvements for FireMonkey (FMX). Second, we continue to improve our C++ capabilities, by including CMake command line support and C++ Rename Refactoring. Third, we provide expanded RAD Server support for Ext JS. As always, there are a number of quality items that address specific customer concerns and overall performance issues. Those features are close to ready, and we’ve decided to provide them with a 10.2.3 release to be able to deliver them to you sooner. Below are some additional details for selected items that will be part of 10.2.3. C++ Rename Refactoring allows you to right-click an identifier in your code, and rename it throughout your project. It’s a complex feature, and contains the core of a new C++ IDE tooling capability that stores an AST for your project - symbols, code structure, and more. Unlike project indexing, introduced in XE2, this runs in the background and can currently provide information for both Find References and Refactoring. Rename Refactoring has been a longtime feature request from our C++Builder customers. It’s been in the works for a while and we’re looking forward to introducing it in the upcoming release. CMake is a popular C++ build tool.  Our first stage of CMake support is building CMake projects (i.e. projects with a CMakeLists.txt) on the command line, using our compilers. This will be very useful for those who want to easily build third-party libraries without converting them to a C++Builder project.  We also specifically support Ninja, allowing for very fast parallel builds. We’re also continuing work to simplify the development of a RAD Server backend for a Sencha Ext JS client. As you probably know, Embarcadero parent company Idera, Inc. acquired Sencha last year, and Sencha provides first in-class enterprise web application capabilities. In 10.2.2, we added a new FireDAC component that helps generate JSON in a format suitable for a Sencha Ext JS client. In 10.2.3, we are adding additional helper classes and the ability to host HTML files as part of RAD Server, both designed to make it easier to use RAD Server as the backend for an Ext JS web application.  Update subscription allows us to release features throughout the year, instead of having a single major release followed only by quality fixes. This means any feature that misses one release is a candidate for the next, and all update subscription customers will get the feature. We are also working on a number of FireMonkey UI templates, designed to highlight FMX's multi-device capabilities, showcase best practices and help new users get started quicker. The GUI templates will be added to GetIt in the coming months, in addition to a new RAD Server app template that is also in the works. Installing Tokyo Release 3 should be a fast and seamless process, but will require an uninstall/reinstall, since it introduces new features and touches many files throughout the product. We continue to evaluate other installation options for point releases that wouldn’t require a full uninstall/reinstall, but so far that has been not only the safest but also most time effective solution in terms of installation time for our customers. We’ve made a number of improvements to the GetIt installer over the past several releases, including the ability to preserve your existing registry settings.  You can't view the links!
